Lancashire firm Orr Medical win two NHS contracts for their clinical referral management services in the North West.

6th November 2017

With around 1.5 million patients referred nationally for elective, consultant-led treatment each month, there is a requirement for the NHS to better manage the demand that flows into hospitals by ensuring that only the most appropriate cases are referred for face-to-face consultation in secondary care.

Following extensive involvement in the development and implementation of a referral quality improvement pilot scheme, launched in November 2016, Orr Medical have now been awarded contracts to deliver its services to Greater Preston and Chorley & South Ribble Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).

With its dedicated team of specialist clinicians looking to triage over 70,000 GP-to-secondary care referrals in the coming year, taking a range of corrective actions to ensure their quality and appropriateness, the service is expected to deliver significant cost and resource efficiencies for the NHS alongside clear improvements in patient care.

“Being fully committed to working alongside the NHS to improve the efficiency of healthcare provision, we are very excited to be given this opportunity to make a positive contribution to the experiences and outcomes for all of our patients as well as reducing both the financial and resource demands being placed on the service” says Dr Matthew Orr, Managing Director of Lancashire company, Orr Medical.
